IMACS students are placed by ability, not age, so no one is in a class that is too hard or too trivial for them. In fact, the IMACS math enrichment program is designed to teach advanced logical reasoning skills to gifted children and those with untapped academic potential. It’s the perfect enrichment program for any child who might not be challenged in the standard classroom. Add in the fun of games, stories and puzzles and you have the perfect combination of challenge and FUN!
Computer Programming Enrichment and University Level courses in math and computer science are no different. Bright middle and high school students are often quickly bored with the traditional school curriculum, as it’s often made up of memorization of facts or preparing students to solve specific problems that will appear on future tests (with a LOT of repetition). The IMACS curriculum teaches students how to THINK critically and analytically, which can be applied across all areas of study.

In many traditional educational settings, math is presented linearly as a collection of rules that need to be memorized. In contrast, IMACS teaches its students how to use math as a gateway to critical thinking. So, instead of memorizing facts and problem-solving algorithms, IMACS students learn to find solutions by thinking analytically and creatively within the context of narrative games, stories, and puzzles. The curriculum also presents foundational concepts from a high-level STEM education in unique, intuitive ways. Students learn about these concepts much more abstractly in IMACS than in the more concrete terms they’re usually presented in other contexts, which provides a deeper understanding AND fosters a love and excitement, not only for STEM fields in particular, but for learning and critical thinking more broadly.
Students who start the IMACS program at an early age and continue through high school graduation have a clear advantage when they reach university. The program uses logic puzzles, games, and visualization techniques to teach advanced mathematical concepts that help develop superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Everyone knows that it’s easier to learn a language when you’re younger. Analytical thinking and critical reasoning are the same way. It all boils down to the plasticity of the younger brain: children are able to learn more easily, quickly, and efficiently. And the younger the better.
The IMACS enrichment program teaches advanced concepts, from mathematics to formal logic to computer science — that most students would not see until college, and even then, only if they majored in math. But none of these concepts are outside the grasp of younger children. When presented in a fun, interactive environment, and broken down intuitively, these ideas open students’ eyes to powerful problem-solving strategies.
