IMACS assembled into a deeper picture the bits and pieces I had gathered during my self-taught endeavors; I saw underlying patterns and paradigms that tied algorithms, packages, and full programming languages together. The IMACS curriculum builds concepts from the ground up logically and elegantly and has instilled in me a proficiency and passion for problem-solving.
The IMACS Path to Success
Peter Edvardsson from IMACS in 10th Grade to Purdue University!
Peter joined the IMACS Computer Science program in 10th grade and successfully completed University Computer Science I and II. His impressive SAT score of 1540 (780 in Math) and outstanding performances on AP exams (5s in Computer Science A, Physics C: Mechanics, and Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism) demonstrate his deep understanding of STEM disciplines.
Since his freshman year in high school, Peter has participated in Cyberstart America, a nationwide cybersecurity competition made up of high school and college students. He consistently achieved finalist status each year, earning Bronze and Silver awards and ultimately becoming a National Cyberscholar with Honors. Through this program, he received a scholarship to study for the GIAC Foundational Cybersecurity Technologies (GFACT) certification exam. He passed with a score of 90%.
Beyond academics, Peter has been actively involved in fostering computer science accessibility. He served as a senior officer in the Bay Area Youth Computer Science Council (BAYCSC), organizing events and presentations to promote computer science education among peers. In addition, he volunteered weekly at his local library’s coding club, mentoring elementary school students and advocating for inclusivity in computer science education. He also shares his musical talents through his piano YouTube channel, where he covers his favorite songs, and enjoys working on coding projects in his spare time, most recently developing a semantic matching package that uses the Smith-Waterman algorithm to compare Greek scriptures.
Peter’s outstanding achievements resulted in acceptance to all seven universities he applied to, including Purdue University, where he plans to study Computer Science and explore concentrations in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
Peter’s journey exemplifies academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to positively impacting his community. His dedication to computer science, both through his studies and extracurricular activities, is truly inspiring. We are thrilled to celebrate Peter’s achievements and look forward to hearing about his future accomplishments.
