The IMACS Math Academy
We're sorry, the deadline for applying to the 2014 IMACS Math Academy has passed.
However, students currently attending school in Broward County, Florida who complete the Aptitude Test by April 4th, 2014 will receive free online access to the EMF program for one year, and may complete the course in a distance-learning, independent-study manner.
To register for the aptitude test, visit http://www.elementsofmathematics.com/broward.
The IMACS Math Academy is an intensive one-week program for exceptional middle-school-aged children currently attending middle school in Broward County, FL, USA. The purpose of this program is to stimulate talented students' interest in mathematics beyond the traditional classroom.
There is no cost to attend the IMACS Math Academy!
Children who attend the IMACS Math Academy will study the Elements of Mathematics: Foundations (EMF) series, a unique and original curriculum for talented students, under the guidance of expert IMACS instructors.
The IMACS Math Academy will also be a place where talented children can make connections with others students of similar age and intellectual ability. In addition to EMF coursework, Academy students will participate in friendly team and individual games. There will be ample time for socialization during breaks and at lunch. Highly experienced IMACS instructors will ensure a safe, comfortable and fun learning environment for everyone.
An individual student may attend one of the following sessions to be held at IMACS Headquarters in Plantation, Florida:
Spring Break Session: March 24 – 28
Summer Break Session: June 23 – 27
Each session is Monday through Friday. Each day follows the same schedule:
Early Drop Off
Each session has space for 30 talented students – that's two separate groups of 15 students each. To be considered, a student must first complete a 30 minute online Aptitude Test by February 28, 2014.
Please note that the test is designed to gauge reasoning skills and intellectual maturity. It does not test a student's knowledge and so there is no preparation that will be useful. Just like the EMF courses, most talented middle school students find the Aptitude Test to be a series of interesting challenges.
If a student's score is sufficiently high, then his or her family will be invited to complete a short application for acceptance into the sessions.
Every Broward County, FL, USA, middle school student who completes the Aptitude Test by February 28 (regardless of acceptance into the Math Academy) will receive free online access to the entire EMF program for one year; those students not admitted to a session will be able to complete the course in a distance-learning, independent-study manner.
