Other IMACS Curriculum
The primary focus of all IMACS courses is to help your child develop critical thinking, logic and reasoning skills.
The majority of our classes use math and computer science to achieve this goal; however, IMACS offers some specialty courses only available through our Homeschool and Summer Camp Programs.
Not all classes are offered at all locations. Check your local region's schedule for availability.
This class is full of challenging mysteries of pure logic presented through games, puzzles and compelling stories! Students have fun while developing reasoning skills and a love for mathematical thinking. Team logic games, exciting tournaments and independent challenges create a strong sense of accomplishment for all students.
Students are introduced to the fascinating world of electronics and learn about components such as resistors, diodes, LEDs, capacitors, transistors, and integrated circuits. They design and construct fun projects and get to keep the electronics devices they build.
The class teaches students to develop patience, planning and reasoning skills through mental competition. Independent thinking and decision making are important components of the Beginning Chess class.
Beginning Chess is only available through our Homeschool Program.
This class is inspired by the "end game" puzzles found in Beginner Chess. These types of puzzles help students learn to analyze all possibilities as they reason through each problem. Serious Fun takes the "end game" concept to the next level! In addition to using more intellectually exciting chess end game puzzles, the IMACS instructor uses a wide variety of other short games that, much like chess end games, train students to think through each solution systemically and logically. A quick chess review prepares new students for these types of puzzles.
Serious Fun is only available through our Homeschool Program.
Right Brain Combo
Book n Cookin SM
This is an engaging and electric class designed to introduce young students to reading comprehension, cooking, music and movement. After reading or listening to a story, students learn to cook fun dishes like cookies, brownies, smoothies and fruit dip. Following the cooking activity, students play games based on the week’s theme. Each week the instructor adds her own spice to the class from puppet shows to dance activities!
This class is part of the Right-Brain Combo, a rotating schedule in which one week Book n Cookin is taught and the following week Fine Arts is taught. This class is only available to students through our Homeschool Program.
Fine Arts by Monkey See Monkey Do
This class is designed to cultivate the natural creativity in children. Students are introduced to Art History and learn art fundamentals. An experienced art instructor from Monkey See Monkey Do Art Studio challenges students with new techniques and a variety of media. Every class is taught in an easy to understand, step-by-step manner.
This class is part of the Right-Brain Combo, a rotating schedule in which one week Fine Arts is taught and the following week Book n Cookin is taught. This class is only available to students through our Homeschool Program.
Because IMACS students are grouped by ability not by age, all children must take a free Placement Class before enrolling in any of the programs. During the Placement Class you will have an opportunity to meet with an IMACS instructor who can evaluate your child's current abilities and recommend an appropriate starting point.
